Solid Part Files

Solid Part Files

Postby dyst542 » Wed May 27, 2015 12:47 am

Hey all,

I'm working on my own developments and discovered the horror that is getting the STL mesh files into solid parts using SolidWorks.

Does anyone happen to have part files for these, or am I going to have to recreate these from the meshes?

I want the part files because writing CAM scripts for CNCing the parts is near impossible from the mesh files (so many false surfaces)

Thanks!

I've just been re-drawing parts based on measurements from the STL files and making changes from there. My first round was just through Inkscape drawings using Makercam to do CAM. This iteration I've been using Fusion 360. If it's helpful I could try exporting something from there as a starting place.

Otherwise, on my first build I did use the trial of Meshcam to do CNC ops on my handle. Check out my build thread for more info.

Hi dyst542,

I will upload later tonight .step files of my designs on my project build. Those will give you clean parts when imported in Solidworks.
Check again later and let me know if those helped.

I did as jeruw and did redesigns using measurements on the STL's, which has worked well so far.

In the GitHub, there are handle designs though I'm not really sure how to derive a part file from. Right now I'm thinking I'll just take those as is and 3d print those.

I'll upload my assembly once I get it all packed up.
